Character Personality:
Rush is first and foremost a brilliant scientist who seems only interested in furthering his research and his own goals. He's Machiavellian in the majority of his interactions with other people. There is a double purpose to almost everything he does even if the other purpose is not readily apparent. For example, he incited a rebellion against the military aboard Destiny, originally stating his reasons were due to the poor leadership by Colonel Young and poor treatment of the civilians on board, but in reality, Rush wanted to hide the fact he was implanted with an alien transmitter because he believed the military officers, Colonel Young specifically, would “toss him out the nearest airlock” if they found out. He's more than willing to deceive for what he calls “The Greater Good.”
He never does anything without a reason. Even if that reason is questionable.
Despite that, Rush is not an evil person. He doesn't want undue loss of life but he also recognizes it is sometimes necessary. After the death of his wife, he became callous though he told himself her death gave him courage. He made himself willing to make the 'hard decisions' which he was determined to do in the most efficient and in a way that would benefit that most number of people in the end, including himself. For example, if one person had to die for the rest of them to live, he would choose the person who was the least useful to the group. He's willing to do terrible things to benefit the majority or survival of himself.
He's also a man who does not take “no” for an answer. If he's refused, he'll simply find another way to get what he wants. Often in not exactly legal or moral ways.
He's also an decent judge of character and predicting the possible reactions different people will have to his actions and planning for each eventuality. At the same time, he is by no means a people person. Most people find him callous, condescending and hostile, with a superiority complex.
But he is not without his human side, before the death of his wife, he could easily be considered a kind and loving person. He still believes in humanity's potential to become something better than what they are but now believes that that is best achieved through knowledge.

Conditional: Personality development in previous game: N/A
Character Plans: Initially, he'll be searching for a way to return to the Destiny. He'll likely attempt to build is own Stargate and search for a power source strong enough to power it. He will make whatever alliances he must to that end.

First Person Sample

This is Rush. I need you to stop what you're doing and lay down your weapons. Everything will be explained shortly but you must lay down your weapons. Further antagonizing the creatures will only entice them into attacking. So please, lay down your weapons and step aside.

Third Person Sample

He heard the shot, echoing through the empty halls of Destiny. Well, nearly empty. There was only one other person who had quarters in this area of the ship. It didn't take Rush long to find it.

Sgt. Spencer keeled over on his bed. A dark crimson stain over the sheets and wall. A suicide. The scene gave Rush pause, he'd seen death before but not quite like this. Then he noted a kino ball hovering near by.

An idea formed in his mind. A death was tragic, yes, but... this could be useful.

With a hesitant hand, he reached out and picked up the gun then with the other he took the kino. He retreated from the room, tucked the gun out of view under his vest then checked his watch. First things first, he slipped to the nearest console and went about deleting the kino footage of Spencer's suicide.

That left the gun. He made his way down the halls until he was outside Colonel Young's quarters. He could plant the gun. In a few hours the body would be discovered. The gun would cast doubt on Colonel Young's command. They'd remove him from command while they investigated. They'd never convict him, of course, but it would buy Rush enough time...

He paused with his hand over the door control then pulled it back. Not yet. The colonel would still be inside. He shouldn't risk waking him with such damning evidence. Better to wait. He turned and found a place to wait discreetly. He'd wait until the colonel left his room.

After a long wait, the door finally opened and the man in question left the room. Headed to what passed for breakfast on this ship, no doubt. Rush waited another minute before he moved. He slipped inside the room and looked around. It would be too obvious to leave it in the open, the colonel could find it prematurely. His eyes settled on a vent above the bed. That just might work.

It didn't take much to pry the cover off and insert the gun. A perfect place to hide something, if you had something to hide.

Rush.

Rush froze, it was Colonel Young.

“Rush, this is Young, come in.”

Rush let out a nervous laugh. The radio. He covered the vent and made his way to the door. He brought his radio up to speak as he opened the door.

“What is it, Colonel? I really am quite busy, thank you,” Rush replied as he stepped out into the hall, his job done.

Additional Writing Samples Upon Revision

First person

[A video feed kicks on. A somewhat scruffy scientist is shown in front of a board he's scribbled with a multitude of equations. He seems aware of the video and glances to the camera.]

Does anyone else understand this? Any of it? [He gestures to the board. The equations have some alien symbols mixed in.]

Anyone?

Third Person

This was most certainly not where Rush intended to end up. The ship he was on most certainly wasn't Destiny. It wasn't even a spaceship. One moment he had been going off on another mundane off-world mission and the next he found himself on this... boat.

Oh, how nice. His bag was even packed for him not that he had terribly much to his name.

A sound caught his attention and he turned to look. A Kino ball hovered near by. It didn't take him long to feel the remote in his pocket. He pulled it out and directed the Kino into search mode.

“Well then, let's see where we are, shall we?” he mumbled to himself

There were a sparse few other people on board and Rush avoided all of them until the boat reached its port. Even then, he hung back and waited for them to leave before he stepped on to dry land. He took a moment to take in his surroundings then headed into what seemed to be a promising direction. The Kino ball hoovering after him.

“Well, we best get to work then,” he said to himself, or possibly to the kino, it was difficult to tell.
